Bunnies? Eggs? Religion? The salvation of humanity? What comes to mind when you think about Easter? We asked people what they think about Easter. Is it still relevant today? Some of their responses will move you, some will surprise you. A great video to help break through platitudes and misconceptions about Easter.
Main Point: Sidewalk interviews with random people reveal that
the most important day to Christians is seemingly irrelevant to society at
large.
Synopsis:
- Post-modern
America disregards or is unaware of the most pivotal events in the history
of mankind -- the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- Proclamations
range from flat out rejection of the Easter message to not knowing what it
has to do with Christianity.
- Some
reveal memories of egg hunts but don’t associate Easter with any spiritual
aspect.
- Convoluted
opinions include distinguishing the social and political function of
religion from spirituality to confusing heaven with Nirvana.
- Three
profound yet succinct testimonies powerfully proclaim Christ; there’s no
comparison between walking with and without Christ, Jesus is what’s left
at the end of life, and Christ paid the price and no one will ever do it
again.
- Beautiful
background music throughout with cuts of the sky and images of children
running on grass collecting Easter eggs. At one point, the shadow of a
cross overlays the grass.
Application:
- There’s
a need for the Great Commission to be carried out here at home.
- Don’t
assume your friends and neighbors have heard the Gospel message.
- The
truth never changes. Even though many people disregard the Resurrection
and confuse Easter with bunnies, it doesn’t change the reality of who Christ
is.
- With
the amalgamation of pagan traditions intersecting with Christian ideology,
today’s church faces some of the same challenges that Paul did in pagan
Corinth.
- No
matter how many people denounce the reality of the cross, there will
always be those who bear witness to what Christ has done for them.
Suggested Uses:
- Easter
Sunday service
- To be
shown before Easter to encourage believers to invite people to church.
Biblical Reference:
1 Corinthians 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the
Jews a stumbling block and unto the Greeks foolishness
